William Markley Willis was married to Gertrude Sowden … For only three short years before he died.

 

His brother, Herbert E. WIllis also died at a training camp in Iowa just five days later. Herbert had only been married to Lola Michelsen for less than 3 years.

 

Their younger brother Edward Shields Willis had enlisted earlier and had been declared missing in action presumed dead in late September, 1918.  Edward did survive the war and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Service Cross, and the  Croix de Guerre.
