Birtin Eugene Trainor was the son of Thomas Edward Trainor and Anna Katherine Gray Trainor. Thomas was born in Leeds-Lanarck County, Ontario, Canada. He was a naturalized American citizen. His family were early day pioneers in southern Colorado. Anna came west from Buffalo, New York. She was educated as a teacher and a nurse. She taught at the Horse Creek School, one room and mixed grades. Thomas was a cowboy, the real McCoy. He had a homestead on Horse Creek in Crowley County. They had six children: James Gordon, Ernest William, Edward Thomas, Birtin Eugene, Anne Therese, and Rosalie Eileen. "Gene" Trainor graduated from Boone High School, and he then taught Spanish and journalism at Meeker High School, in Rio Blanco County. When news came of his death, his former students dedicated their high school year book to him. My mother, Anne Therese Trainor Davis, tells me that I am very much like my uncle Gene. She says that he was quiet, gentle, and always made her feel very special. He loved to read. If I am like him, I am very humbly honored. Although I did not have the gift of knowing him, he is in my heart. I miss him but know that he is safe and at rest in the embrace of God. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. - Submitted by Thomas Everett Davis, nephew of Birtin Eugene Trainor
