San Luis Valley Obituaries: Military funeral services were held wednesday in Saguache for Pvt. Ralph W. Raby son of Mr. and Mrs. James Raby of Saguache and a brother of Mrs. Walter W. Wharton of Alamosa.Young Raby was killed in the spring of 1945 during the battle of Okinawa. Young Raby was born and reared in Saguache and was a senior in high school at the time he entered the marine corps in 1944. In addition to his parents and his sister here, survivors are two other sisters, Mrs. Victor Bauman and Mrs. Shirley Alexander and 2 brothers, Walter and John of Saguache. Ralph was brought back to Saguache to be buried after the war. Was buried in Okinawa, Philapines then later brought back to the U.S. and buried in Saguache Cemetery, Saguache, CO.
