Entered service from Colorado. Member Company K, 1st Colorado Volunteers. Faked illness to avoid guard duty in order to take part in attack on Maraquina. Shot in the back by sniper shooting from the town's church tower while shooting from behind a rice ridge. After being shot gave rifle to Harley West to continue attack. Originally buried in Paco Cemetery at Manila. Nicknamed "Pynch". Relative of Frank Pynchon of Arizona Territory. Described by West saying "There wasn't one in the company, or even in the regiment, that didn't love him; brave, honest and jolly, always ready to do his duty without complaining, he was an ideal soldier, proud of his regiment, proud of his company, proud of his comrades".
