Served aboard USS Oklahoma and is buried as unknown. Son of Elah Corden Phillips and Nona B. Phillips.Brother of Milo E. and John C. Phillips and Nona Jessie Phillips Annis and Naomi T. Cameron. Joined Navy on February 16, 1940. Listed upon Courts of the Missing. Awarded Purple Heart.

USS Oklahoma Sailor Accounted For From World War II (Phillips, M.)

WASHINGTON — The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that Navy Water Tender 1st Class Milo E. Phillips, 26, killed during World War II, was accounted for on March 1, 2021.

 

On Dec. 7, 1941, Phillips was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Phillips.

 

There is no further information at this time regarding the final resting place of WT1 Phillips.
