Heavy weapons infantryman in Company B, 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion. Listed MIA while fighting the enemy near Unsan on November 2, 1950. Enemy counterattack had completely overrun the 15th ROK Regiment and Company B's 3rd Platoon firing in support was cut off completely from the rest of the company and Montoya was one of three lost who attempted to re-establish contact with the platoon. Presumed dead December 31, 1953, remains never recovered. Awarded Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
