Leo Leyden was born in Denver in 1892. He was one of six children of John and Nellie Leyden. Leo was educated in the Denver Schools and the University of Denver. He enlisted in the Marines on July 1, 1917, and he arrived in France in the spring of 1918. Leo Leyden was the first man from Colorado killed in WW1. The Legion Post number one was named after him and the street Leyden was also named after Leo. Leo was a true American hero.
