Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Toinby. Moved to Golden when a small boy and attended Golden schools including Golden High School. In 1942 was employed for construction work at Pearl Harbor, and entered service immediately upon returning to Golden on May 20, 1943. Received training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and sent to engineers' school at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and received further training at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. Went on maneuvers in West Virginia and then left for Europe in July 1944. Served with 188th Combat Engineers in General Patton's 3rd Army. Was married to Josephine Hicks and had son Donald Grant Goodrich. Brother Pfc. Paul Goodrich of the Marines was wounded in fighting on Iwo Jima. Brother of Mrs. Lyle Spath and Mrs. Charles Hemberger of Golden.
