Private Bruce Albert Gilliland Born on February 11, 1921. Killed in Action on May 6, 1943. He had served in the Coast Guard and received a Purple Heart for His Bravery.
Born in McCook Nebraska and lived there until his parents William Robert and Bertha Alice Gilliland moved to Eckley Colorado along with his siblings, three brothers and four sisters. They owned a working farm in Eckley, Colorado.
Bruce enlisted along with his older brother, Wayne Robert Gilliland. Wayne had a hernia and wasn't able to serve.
Bruce was killed in action on a ship that was carrying him along with the Coast Guard unit that he was part of. The ship was headed to Africa.
