Parents: Emmet and Esther "Tiny" Crawford - Siblings: Nathan and Raymond - Served in the 40th Bombardment Group from 1941-1944. Served as Flight Engineer on a Douglas B-18 Bolo Commanded by Captain P.A. "Chick" Koenig which sank the German submarine U-654 on August 22, 1942. Later served as Gunner on a Boeing B-29 Superfortress commanded by Captain Marvin Stockett, one of the first B-29's to be deployed. They flew an unknown number of supply missions between April and June 1944 over the "Hump" before the first bombing raid on Bangkok, Thailand. They were assigned to fly to the forward base at Chengdu, China for the second bombing raid which required flying over the "hump". The plane never reached Chengdu where the first bombing raid on Japan since Doolittle's 1942 raid departed on June 15, 1944. Harry V. Crawford is missing, presumed dead.
