Byron was a conscientious objector who was drafted into the United States Army and served as Combat Medical Specialist in 4th Infantry Division, 12th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, HHC Company. Byron's tour in South Vietnam started on 11 Sep 1968 and ended on 31 May 1969 with his death.
