Was on intelligence gathering mission over Sea of Japan when shot down by Soviet fighters near Vladivostok, USSR on November 6, 1951. Presumed dead the next day, remains never recovered. Awarded Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
