Raymond Adle served with the 440the Ordinance Company (Aviation), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy) of the V Bomber Command. Just before Pearl Harbor, in November 1941, he arrived in the Philippines. With the fall of Corregidor, he was taken prisoner and was held at the Davao Penal Colony until he was transported by the Shinyo Maru, one of the famous Japanese Hell Ships. According to the American Battle Monuments Commission he was awarded the Purple Heart. Raymond Adle's parents, Ephraim R. Adle (1890-1937) and Hazel V. Hover (1891-2940) preceded their son in death and no immediate family members survived him.
