2LT Robert Menter's draft card states he was born in Denver and his enlistment record says he enlisted in Denver. Both of his parents were born in Nebraska.
Although Robert died in 1944, he arrived in 1947, meaning he would have likely been temporarily interred near Aachen, Germany where he was killed in action. The following is from his obituary in the Rocky Mountain News of November 15, 1947, provided at the time of his funeral services.
"Funeral services for Second Lt. Robert A. Menter, killed in action Dec. 4, 1944, near Aachen, Germany, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Crown Hill. Born in Denver, August 6, 1923, Lieutenant Menter was the son of Patrolman and Mrs. Charles L. Menter, 1162 S. Logan st. He attended Grant Junior High School and was graduated from South High School in 1941. He was an officer in Reserve Officers Training Corps. In Oct. 1941, Lieutenant Menter enlisted in the Army. He was commissioned in September, 1943. He suffered shrapnel wounds while with the 102d Infantry Division, in Cherbourg, France, in 1944, and was confined to a hospital in England for several weeks. Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Miss Barbara Jean, Dorothy Ruth and Helen Louise Menter, and a brother, Harold Richard Menter".
