Crew member of C-46 Commando Transport with 48th Troop Carrier Squadron, 1st Troop Carrier Group. On January 8, 1951 while landing at Chungju Air Base (K-41) his aircraft's landing gear collapsed and it crahsed into 2 other C-46 planes. Seriously wounded and died of wounds on January 13, 1951. "Art" flew the "Hump" from India to china during WWII. He returned to civilian life in 1947 and attended the University of Denver. He re-entered the Air Force and was at Lowry Air Force Base for a firefighting course. October 1, 1949 he was sent to Naha Air Base, Okinawa as a fire chief. When the Korean conflict broke out he was again pressed into service as a transport pilot. Survived by his wife Helen and infant son Steve, whom he had never seen. Buried with full military honors in the military section of Crown Hill Cemetery. Awarded Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
