Medic with Medical Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. While attacking enemy positions at Heartbreak Ridge his unit came under heavy fire. Winters courageously exposed himself to this fire to aid wounded comrades and was morally wounded himself. Awarded Silver Star, Purple Heart, Combat Medical Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
