Robert C. Wages was born June 28, 1918 at Exline, Iowa. The following year he moved with his parents to near Vernon where he spent his early boyhood. In 1929 he moved with his parents to Hale, where they resided until 1934 at which time they moved to Laird and then Wray. He entered the service of his country March 21, 1942 going to Camp Cook, California for his basic training. From there he went to Camp Hood, Texas where he received Tank Destroyer and Commando training. He earned Sergeants stripes and sent to Camp Lewis, Wash. with Comapny C. 705th Tank Destroyer Battalion. In December 1943 Robert was home on furlough. He left for overseas service in april 1944 and was killed in action September, 8th. 705th TD Bn. was part of Task Force A commanded by Brigadier General Herbert L. earnest which was fighting in the Crozon Peninsula (Brittany, France) at the time of his death.
