Lived at Golden and Craig. Son of Thomas Shephard. Brother of Richard, Thomas, Annie and Emma Shephard. Attended Colorado School of Mines where he was commander of the Student Army Training Corps which included 4 companies. Had ranch homestead upon Upper Fortification Creek in Illinois Park in Little Bear neighborhood of Moffat County. Joined Army with a Moffat County contingent in April 1917. Trained at Camp Funston. Served in Company K, 354th Infantry, 89th Division and was severely wounded during heavy fighting in France. Awarded memorial honor certificate from France. Brother of Thomas Shephard of Golden, brother-in-law of Charlie Taylor of northern Moffat County. Also reported to have died of wounds on December 2nd.
