Moved with his parents to Colorado at age 12. Graduated from Swansea school in 1894. Lived a few miles south of Littleton. Among the first to enlist in service from Colorado. Member Company I, 1st Colorado Volunteers. Contracted smallpox while on guard duty at Manila penitentiary which had many disease germs. Described by Littleton Independent as "a dutiful son, kind brother, and faithful soldier".
