Served aboard USS Calamares. Husband of Mabel Hyland Rooney. Employed many years as a baker at State Industrial School for Boys at Golden. Entered Navy at age 17 and honorably discharged as baker second class and afterward entered Naval Reserves at Denver on November 7, 1916. Called into service shortly after United States entered World War I. First served aboard USS San Diego until 3 days before it was sunk on July 19, 1918. AFterward served as chief commissary steward aboard the Calamares. Taken sick while making 11th trip across Atlantic. Member Woodmen of the World.
