Dale's birth certificate says he was born in Ft. Lupton, but technically he was born in Hudson. At the time their mail didn’t come to their house. It was delivered a mile and half from there home in the Ft. Lupton district.
The following gratefully provided by Dale Nichols niece, Pam Nichols-Kretzer.
His family were ranchers and farmers in the Hudson area along with two of his brothers who are still living in the area; Myles and Maynard. Dale was one of of ten kids. His father Myles said Dale was a real cowboy. There was no horse he couldn’t ride. My dad was the only one who followed in his footsteps of being a cowboy and rancher. When Dale was killed he had another brother who was in the Marines at the same time, Darrel. Dale’s mother was suffering from cancer when he was killed. During transit, his body was lost before getting it back to the United States. The family didn’t have a phone at the time to notify them. They said when the family did finally get the telegraph that they had found his body, his mother laid the telegraph on her chest and passed away.
Dale is buried at the cemetery in Platteville, CO.
My brother Dale was named after him.
