His mother, Virginia Lambkins, lived at 204 S Beech St. in Trinidad.

Zira was awarded a Bronze Star posthumously. He was a tank trooper, killed in action at Lohhof, Germany. He was a member of an armored infantry unit on the western front when he was killed, a little more than a week before the surrender of the German armies ended the European war. The Bronze Star was awarded for "heroic achievement in action on April 29 in Germany. In the face of heavy small arms and machine gun fire, which hit all the other members of his squad, PFC Lambkins maintained his position on top of a tank as guard against panzerfause fire until he was killed. His courage and devotion to duty contributed to the successful completion of his unit's mission and reflects great credit and strong determination."

His mother Virginia also received the Purple Heart award and several letters from her son's commanding officers and his chaplain. PFC Lambkins had been in service a year and overseas four months when he was killed in action. He was nineteen years old at the time of his death. He attended high school in Trinidad. Besides his mother he was survived by two brothers and three sisters. One brother PFC Frank Lambkins, was a veteran of the Army service of seven years and served three years in the Aleutians. Another brother was Charles Parise of 415 West Second Street. Sisters were Jennie, Virginia, and Dorothy Lambkins.
