PFC Kuntz was born in Otis, Colorado and was inducted into the Army on March 21, 1942. He served as a Private First Class in the 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. The 90th Infantry Division, was involved in some of the hardest fighting in the invasion of Europe and was among the first of the troops landed in France on D-Day. He was killed in action at Normandy and awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.
