Nicknamed "Dick". Orphaned son on of James Hendon and Mary Elizabeth Hill Hardwick, and brother of Mary Eliza, William Aubrey, Audrey Leighton and Katie Beatrice Hardwick. He previously lived at Aquilla, Texas and attended Texas Christian University. Hendon worked at a sugar factory in Loveland; enlisted in Marines in 1917. Member 20th Company, 3rd Battalion.
