Served as a field artillery cannoneer. Member C Battery, 38th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. Also served in the Navy and in World War II. Captured during combat near Kunu-ri, North Korea on November 30, 1950. Died POW of pneumonia at Pyoktong, North Korea on February 28, 1951. Remains never recovered. Awarded Bronze Star, Prisoner of War Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea War Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Remains were identified in July 2015. Grant's remains finally were laid to rest on his birthday, Oct 19, 2015. He was awarded the PURPLE HEART
