SSgt Bauer served in the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Bauer received the Bronze Star, The Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal. He was in his second tour to Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Kari, and numerous family from Berthoud.
