Leslie Lee Allen was the youngest son of Robert Lewis Allen and Julia Venetta Andrews, nee Peters. He was the brother of Robert Samuel, James Lawrence, Mable (Cooper), Lucille (Beach), and Paul Wendell Allen. The family lived in Buffalo, Missouri, Crowley, Colorado, Pueblo, Colorado and Denver, Colorado.Leslie died at the age of nineteen in the Battle of the Bulge, France. His platoon ran into a group of enemy tanks and Leslie was wounded very badly by the shrapnel and died soon after. In a letter to the family, dated a few days before his death, he talks of scavenging vegetables and apples from the local gardens. In June, 1945, the family received a nice letter from David Schakne, who served with Leslie. He wrote about the circumstances of Leslie's death saying, "I know that I might not be writing this letter today had he and the rest of the second platoon not braved the fire of those tanks and destroyed them."
