Colorado Freedom Memorial to Receive 2023 Community Project Funding

U.S. Rep. Jason Crow (D), to present CFM with $1.5 million grant from the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act

VIP event and presentation will take place at noon, Friday, March 3, 2023 at the CFM Pavilion

March 2, 2023 – Aurora, COLORADO – This Friday, March 3, U.S. Rep. Jason Crow (D) of Aurora, will present a ceremonial check for $1.5 million in funding to the Colorado Freedom Memorial in a VIP reception at noon at the Colorado Freedom Memorial (CFM). The funding was secured as part of 15 community projects totaling more than $21 million that Rep. Crow submitted to, and was approved by the House Appropriations Committee.

The grant dollars secured for the Colorado Freedom Memorial will be used to fund the design and site plan for the Colorado Freedom Memorial Center.

From Rep. Crow’s Letter to the Committee: “The Colorado Freedom Memorial Center will contain a theater for presentations by authors, historians, and veterans, a classroom with computers linked to CFM partners across the country where genealogists, historians and individuals can research generations of Colorado’s military stories. The Center will host visitors during inclement weather; bring students on field trips for lessons about service and sacrifice, and hold presentations by local military units about their important missions.

The CFM has honored the 6218 Colorado veterans killed in military action since we became a state for the last nine years. The Colorado Freedom Memorial Center, when built, will be a place of healing for the families and friends of the fallen and a place where future generations can learn about the price of freedom. It is designed to be a multi-use space, serving as a visitor, education, and meetings site and will bring the Colorado community together to gather, honor and heal.”

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, signed by President Biden on December 29, 2022, comprised $858 billion in spending for defense and $800 billion for all other categories combined. In a process change that went into effect last year, members of Congress were allowed to request direct funding of community projects for their districts that had the support of local leaders and community-based organizations.
