GOLD STAR FAMILIES MEMORIAL MONUMENT TO BE ADDED TO COLORADO FREEDOM MEMORIAL CIRCLE OF HONOR

August 19, 2020 – Aurora, CO – The Aurora City Council, by unanimous vote on Monday evening, approved the addition of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument (GSFMM) at the site of the Colorado Freedom Memorial (CFM).  The GSFMM completes the Circle of Honor at the CFM, honoring the families of the fallen who have sacrificed so much and bore the price we pay for freedom with the loss of a loved one.  The Gold Star tribute is spearheaded by the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation with the goal of placing a GSFMM in each of the 50 states.

“When we dedicated the Colorado Freedom Memorial seven years ago, we honestly believed our work was done,” said CFM President and Founder Rick Crandall.  “But we soon realized our job had in fact, just begun. Almost immediately, we felt that we had an opportunity to create one of the most important sites to both remember and honor our fallen in Colorado, but we had to honor the families as well.  Now, veterans and Gold Star Families can come and see the names of the fallen on the Colorado Freedom Memorial, touch the Home’s Embrace granite markers that contain soil from the gravesites of fallen WWI and WWII Coloradans, and see the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument with its silhouette of a service member saluting, parallel to the CFM.  The Circle of Honor will now be complete.”

The Colorado Freedom Memorial Foundation has worked closely with the GSFMMF on this project, and both organizations hope to have the GSFMM in place by October. A public open house will be announced.
